Decisions can be difficult. What do you want? What do you need?
Should it be sturdy and functional in a house full of children and pets or must it complement architectural or decorative features? Do you have a wood type or design style you favour? Will it be a centre-piece or a side-piece? Is it for one person, two people….or several? Have you seen something you like and want to recreate? Do you have something in mind but can’t express it?
Some people have a clear idea of what they want, others – less so; some have a multitude of conflicting ideas. Commissioning can be exciting, daunting and confusing all at once.

A commission starts with listening to your story and your ideas so I understand what you want to achieve. Sometimes I can add to your ideas so that we develop them together or if you prefer, I will offer you a selection of ideas to discuss and develop. If you want to invest time in the commissioning process please visit, spend time in my workshop and let the ideas emerge slowly. I’m happy to visit you if you think that would be valuable. I’m motivated by the privilege of crafting something special for people to put in their homes. The evolution of a relationship is an important part of that process.

Sometimes a design comes quickly, sometimes slowly, that’s OK. We can agree the tiniest detail or a generalised idea which I develop. Once underway, I will send you updates and you’re welcome to visit me to see your project in process. When its finished, I will deliver it to ensure it arrives in perfect condition, and because I want to see it in a beautiful place.
I aim to make about five pieces of furniture each year, but much depends on size and complexity. And I have about six months of advance work, so nothing happens quickly. If you are interested in a piece of furniture or wood craft, please use the Contact page to get in touch by email or phone.
