There was a time when furniture was hand-made by craftsmen who used local materials and developed their own specialisms and styles. Their furniture was affordable within the community and they knew their customers well. Sometimes they were paid in kind or over an extended period. Industrial manufacturing brought that era to an end and today, handmade furniture is an expensive investment.
Or is it?
Take this dresser by Ambrose Heal. It is nearly 100 years old, has served three generations and has plenty of life left in it. If the design is timeless and the manufacture strong, handmade furniture is a cost-efficient investment.

So, I hope you will wish to explore my furniture rather than shy away because you think it will be too expensive. A well-balanced, simple hand-made piece built from carefully chosen wood can be as rewarding to make and own as a complex item; just as elegant and often more functional. A prime example is the contrast between the rarified extravagance of the Art Deco era and the emergence of sleek mid-century modern Scandi design.
Alongside the cost I will give you an estimate of the material cost and the length of time a piece will take to build so that my costs are transparent.
